It WORKS! I have tried other solutions to pick up sweet gum balls from the yard, but they have either been very labor intensive, or not highly effective. A good lawn mower with a bag attachment is only about 10% effective in my experience. I have a lawn vacuum that does an excellent job of removing leaves from the lawn, but only about 20% effective removing gum balls with the front sweeper. Only the hose attachment works. So, we rake up all the gum balls into piles and then use the hose to pick up the piles. I considered purchasing a more powerful lawn vacuum, but could not find one that claimed to be effective removing gumballs, so did not want to risk a large investment on something that may be no better than what I already had. A few years ago I purchased a Nut Wizard (similar to Weasel) that claims to pick up gum balls, but it was about 25% effective unless conditions were perfect (gum balls recently fell and grass not growing), it is cumbersome to empty AND you often had to go over the same spot so many times you might as well use a rake. The past few years, we have hired a professional lawn service to do the initial cleanup, and then we would take care of the new gumballs periodically as they fell. I have been researching the Bag-A-Nut for a while, and it had good reviews, but a bit pricey for me to take the risk. We had a winter storm with high winds that blew a huge amount of gum balls from the trees earlier than usual. My lawn was literally blanketed with gum balls. So, I decided to take the risk. I am happy to say it works as described and we were able to remove 11 large 50 gal. bags of gum balls from the yard in just a few hours. Most of that time was emptying the basket into the bags. The Bag-A-Nut was 99% effective at removing the gum balls from the lawn (only the ones smashed down into the soil were missed), AND I did not have to go over the same area twice. We were able to skip the professional this year, and it will be much easier to pick up new ones as they fall without being an all day project. Observations and lessons learned: Easy to assemble (4 screws to attach the handle). I still think the price is a bit high for the tool itself, but if you have significant gum balls as I do, it is worth the price to me for the time savings and convenience. I purchased the 18 inch model, and the basket can fill quickly depending on how many gum balls are on the ground. I would not want the 12 inch model. The 36 inch model would require less stops to empty, but it is also a $200 price jump over the 18 inch, and contains two baskets, so you would still need to empty the same number of baskets as the 18 inch, but not stop as often. I am satisfied with the 18 inch and stopping to empty the basket more often, but you can decide if reducing the number of stops to empty is worth it for you. Speaking of emptying, I could not find information on how the basket (18 inch model) was emptied, but I can tell you now it is extremely simple. The rear of the basket has two hook shapes that sit into the main frame. No tools or manipulation needed to remove/replace the basket, it simply lifts right off. Consider removing leaves from the lawn first. The Bag-A-Nut will pick up leaves along with the gum balls, causing the basket to fill up more quickly. You will need to rake the gum balls from around walls, trees and landscaping since the Bag-A-Nut needs about 2 inches of clearance from the edge. 855.SHELLER had the best online price+shipping for this item I could find.
